It’s an easy journey from Verona airport into the city – the Aerobus (No 199) departs from just outside the front of the airport & take around 20 minutes to reach Verona Porto Nuova railway station, from there it is a short taxi ride into the city.

We spent 2 full days exploring the delightful city of Verona during our Italian trip, some of our favourites finds:

Juliets House
Obviously this is fictional & very touristy but it’s one of those things you have to do if you are visiting the city! Hot tip – go early as long queues form!

Verona Arena
Built in the 1st century AD the Arena is an imposing & amazing sight in Piazza Bra! Once the fighting ground of gladiators the Arena is now an opera & concert venue.
We personally thought that the exterior is the most spectacular part, the inside which you can visit for €9 each (seniors) / €12 general admission, was disappointing.
If you are planning to visit go early in the day as it does get very busy with long queues & there is very little shade (it gets very hot in Verona!)

Piazza Bra
the largest & busiest square in the city has a lovely public garden that was landscaped in 1873. Here you will find The Fountain of The Alps, built in 1970 to mark the twinning of Verona to Munich in Germany. The statue of the first king of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II which was unveiled in 1883 has a prominent position in the gardens.
There are plenty of cafes & restaurants in the square where you can enjoy coffee & delicious cakes or a glass of wine whilst watching the world go by with the magnificent Arena as a backdrop!

Ponte Pietra
From this Roman arch bridge, completed in 100BC over the River Adige, you’ll see some of the most beautiful views in Verona from Castel San Pietro to the Roman Arena.
Don’t miss taking the funicular up to Castel San Pietro – the views of the city are amazing! There was a guy strumming a guitar when we visited, it really added to the atmosphere. There is also a café for refreshments.

Piazza Delle Erbe
This is a busy but delightful market square & our favourite piazza in Verona. It is bordered by cafes, restaurants, bars, niche shops and a daily market in the centre.
Palazzo Maffei sits on the west side & is an impressive building especially at night.
The Mazzanti Houses on the east side are residential properties with amazing 16th century frescoes.
Torre dei Lamberti is a must do, it’s the tallest medieval tower in Verona – there is a lift to the top of the 84m high tower where you can enjoy fabulous views of the city & be close up to the bells.

We really enjoyed our time in Verona & plan to return for a longer stay, highly recommend!
