Day 7 on our Road Trip found us in Stuttgart checking into the IBIS Stuttgart Centrum in Marienplatz, there is a carpark to the rear.

Stuttgart is the capital of Germany’s Baden Wurttemberg state with green spaces, historical buildings, theatres and art galleries.

Mercedes Benz and Porsche both have their headquarters and museums in Stuttgart which attract motor enthusiasts from all over the world.

Marienplatz has shops, cafes and a U Bahn (underground station) from where you can explore further afield.

We didn’t have long to absorb all that Stuttgart has to offer as our main reason for this stopover was to visit the Porsche Museum at Porscheplatz in the Zuffenhausen region.

Some of the buildings and architecture that we did see on taking the UBahn from Marienplatz to Charlottenplatz from where it is only a few minutes walk to Sclossplatz:

Landesmuseum Württemberg (Württemberg State Museum) – located at Altes Schloss in Schillerplatz, this is the historical museum.

Schlossplatz (Palace Square) – is the biggest square located in the heart of the city, here you will see the Neues Schloss (New Castle). The area is vibrant, busy, in easy reach of many attractions and has plenty of restaurants and cafes.

Stiftskirche (Collegiate Church) – the church can be seen from just about everywhere in the centre, you can climb the tower for the views from the top.

The Staatstheater Stuttgart (State Theatre) – is in a lovely setting within the Schlossgarten (Castle Garden), the lake and fountain make a beautiful foreground.

Eating out:
We found a lovely restaurant in Schlossplatz called Carls Brauhaus am Schlossplatz, the two local dishes that we chose were simply delicious!
Wiener Schnitzel served with Cranberry sauce and war Potato Salad
Schwabenteller (a Swabian dish) – Pork Tenderloin with a breaded veal chop, Swabian ravioli and Spaetzle.

Zacke railway – it is the only urban rack railway in Germany, you can take the Zacke from Marienplatz up to the top of the town for delightful views across the city.

Porsche Museum
We took the Sbahn from Marienplatz to Porscheplatz which stops directly outside the museum, I suppose we shouldn’t have been surprised that Porsche has their own station!
Admission: 10 euro (adult). Exceptionally good value.
The museum is closed on Mondays.
We had been looking forward to our visit and we were not disappointed, the entire Porsche site at Zuffenhausen covers a jaw dropping 670,000 square metres and it looks amazing!
You can see up to 95 cars on display along with some smaller exhibits and modes, the displays are changed regularly and cover an area of 5,600 square metres.
It exudes all the style and elegance that we have come to expect from Porsche, simply fabulous!
