After our ride on the Koblenz Cable Car we made our way to Mainz is a further 114 km along the A3.

We checked into the IBIS Mainz City for one night.

Mainz is a city in Germany situated on the west bank of the Rhine, it is one of the oldest cities in Europe.
It was heavily bombed in WW2 but has been sympathetically restored.
Its Romanesque cathedral (St Martins Cathedral) stands in the centre of the city near the pedestrianised market square.

Kirschgarten is a pretty square with half timbered houses, Zum Aschaffenberg is the oldest preserved one in Mainz having been built around .

We enjoyed a delicious meal at a small restaurant in the market square; I had a Smoked Salmon Tarte Flambee and Rich opted for a local dish of Veal patties, red cabbage and mash potatoes.
